We are very happy to tell you that GIPE is back as
Global Sustainable Interdisciplinary & Intercultural Project Experience (GIPE++)

Building on the success of the GIPE (Global Intercultural Project Experience) project funded by DAAD from 2019 to 2023, the new project GIPE++ will be run in the years 2025 to 2027! It is again funded by DAAD in close cooperation with our partner universities:

The focus of the GIPE++ project, which allows for three annual student projects – each taking place during the summer semester (March to July) – is on providing a truly international, interdisciplinary and intercultural project experience to students of the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences and its participating partner universities. The aim is to prepare students significantly better for a professional career in globally active companies or organisations.
For the year 2025, we will be collaborating with the local community “Pokdarwis” of Pulau Untung Jawa Island (one of the “Thousand Islands” north of Jakarta) to derive sustainable solutions to help fight Climate Change and enhance Tourism.
The students participating in this project will
- gain a unique Global Intercultural Project Experience (GIPE++) … plus 6 CreditPoints!
- work together with students from Peru, Namibia and Indonesia (and also have fun)
- help the local community of Untung Jawa Island in the fight against Climate Change and further develop Tourism.
- develop technical solutions (e.g. digital tourism platform, tools for climate change monitoring), business proposals (e.g. fundraising, social media strategy) and more…
They will be working in an international, interdisciplinary and intercultural team together with other teams on the development and presentation/handover of practical solutions intended for later use by the client and further stakeholders.
The official start of the project is a joint kick-off event on
March 11th, 2025
executed as a Zoom meeting where they will learn more about the client and the project, and get to know their fellow students from our partner universities. From
April 28th, 2025 – May 9th, 2025
we will then experience an absolute highlight of the project at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences, the
„Spring School.“
During these two weeks, all scholars from all our partner universities will be here in Germany to work (but also have fun) together on the project in mixed teams which they will continue online after the Spring School.
For the preparation and the realisation of this very special event, we are looking for interested students with the following profile
